Okinawa is located in the warmest part of Japan, so the weather was always nice. Okinawa is the first place where people can enjoy full cherry blossoms during spring. Okinawa’s customs, traditions, and relaxing environment makes its visitors feel at home. Okinawa’s beauty can be seen all over the island. There are high mountains and progressed forests to be hiked and explored. The environment is well maintained for tourist such as myself. Exotic tropical plants and animals can be found all over the island. Its clear waters and white sand beaches are there for the taking. Beautiful clear nights and days make your stay there everlasting. Walking the streets under the clear night sky was one of my favorite things to do. During my stay I discovered and experienced the culture from its roots. Whether it was learning the Japanese language, eating sushi or drinking sake. The native language is Japanese but due to US influences some locals speak English. The younger generation is less traditional then the older generation. They still follow a lot of traditions such as the Japanese tea ceremony. The dragon boat races I attended where heavy influenced by their tradition. Okinawa is a relaxing environment. Due to the vast military bases throughout the island crime is really not tolerated. During my four year stay there was only one murder on the whole island. So rest assured that you can shop and spend money without feeling apprehensive. Shopping in Naha Plaza was an unforgettable experience because japans technology is so more far advance then ours. The music scene has a vast variety of genres but it seem like some Okinawans are stuck in the 1980’s. This island creates the perfect melting pot for all races because people from all over the world live on the island. In conclusion Okinawa has a whole lot to offer the world of travelers abroad. My personal experiences with the island and the people who inhabit the island of Okinawa were priceless. I hope my shared journey and adventures help others discover the island of Okinawa.
